It’s natural to want to start cleaning things up yourself, but a few things are better left to the professionals. Try not to wash smoke-damaged clothing in your own machine, since regular laundering can set the smoke odor into the fabric, and avoid turning on electronics or appliances that got wet or were exposed to heat. It’s also best to hold off on throwing anything away, even items that look ruined, because many of them can be cleaned and restored, and everything should be documented first.

A pack out is the professional removal of personal property from a damaged home or business.
